History
Affirmation House is a small, grassroots organization, dedicated and committed to assisting men, in regaining their self-respect and status within the lives of their families and communities. We provide the tools to remove barriers to employment.
Over the years we have received many acknowledgements for our innovative work in the areas of employment training and living wage job placement and retention.
In 2003, we received a letter of recognition from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), which states that we exhibited extraordinary knowledge, skills and abilities demonstrated for the Haymarket Center, Inc.—Family Enrichment Center project. The project was the first of its kind to be funded by DOL to serve a very difficult population—individuals with substance abuse and criminal background issues. In the first six months of our contract, we doubled the number of unsubsidized job placements. The project was identified as the most successful Earmark project awarded to that date.
The City of Chicago—Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development (MOWD) approved as a qualified Customized Workforce Service Vendor, in 2004.
In Fiscal Year 2005, we were awarded a contract for re-entry supportive housing from the Illinois Department of Correction (IDOC) - Sheridan Project. This contract has been renewed for FY 2007 thru FY 2010.
The U.S. Social Security Administration awarded us an employment performance contract, under the Ticket-to-Work Program in April, 2007. We are now a registered Employment Network, assisting individuals with disabilities to return to work and become self-sufficient.
