Affirmation House - Re-Entry Preparation, Training & Employment Network

About Us

Our goal is to end homelessness and transient life-styles, by preparing our Men-In-Transition (MIT) to successfully re-enter family and society as motivated, proud, gainfully employed, self-sustaining citizens.

Affirmation House has been a leader in providing re-entry preparation, employment training, job placement, retention and supportive services for individuals with serious barriers to employment since 2001.

Our G.R.A.S.P It– training curriculum was developed and piloted on the Westside of Chicago, for the North Lawndale Employment Network (NLEN) for the U-Turn Permitted; ex-offender re-entry training program. In 2003 162 clients graduated from NLEN and our expertise in business relations and job placement we contributed to placing 146 clients into employment. We consistently held-placement rates of 60% and better over a two-year contract period for NLEN’s Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development contract.

We successfully introduced the concept of the Gentlemen’s Closet during this contract period. It was developed out of the trunk of a car, providing dress slacks, shirts, ties and shoes when available. The addition of the business attire was Working Professionalinstrumental in removing yet another barrier that MIT are confronted with; the lack of appropriate interviewing attire. This new addition was both motivating and inspiring to the graduates which allowed them to compete in the job market.

Preparing our Men-In-Transition to acquire skills that enable them to become and remain self-sustaining and reducing the need for supportive services. Assisting them in identifying and utilizing their unidentified job skills and experience.
